Why you might need to update your insurance

There are a few reasons why you might want to update your insurance. Your life may have changed since you last reviewed your insurance. You may have just got married, had children or started a new job. Or you might have automatic cover that you don’t need. It’s a good idea to work out how much insurance you need and what you’re covered for.

If you have insurance with another company or super fund, you can apply to transfer it to us. You cannot apply to transfer and then keep your old insurance.

Apply for Basic Cover

Our Basic Cover gives you:

  • death cover, and
  • total and permanent disablement cover.
  • If you are eligible, you can apply for this cover at any time by answering some simple questions, or you may get it automatically.

Get Basic Plus Cover 

Basic Plus Cover gives you double the Basic Cover amount.  

If you are eligible, you can apply for Basic Plus Cover at any time by answering some simple questions. When you apply for Basic Plus Cover, you can also include income protection cover. This income protection cover has a 60-day waiting period and 2-year benefit period.

Get income protection cover through IP Express 

Another simple way to apply for income protection cover if you don’t already have it, is to apply through IP Express. IP Express gives you more benefit periods and waiting period options than Basic Plus Cover.

To apply you’ll need to answer some simple questions about your:  
 

  • employment 
  • health 
  • lifestyle. 

Life events cover makes it easy to top up your insurance when circumstances in your life change. We call this applying for cover due to a life event.

Life events include things like getting married, having a child or buying your own home. You'll need to meet certain criteria and apply within 90 days of the date of the event.

Increase your insurance due to a life event

If you’d like to tailor your insurance, you will need to complete an online application. You will need to answer more detailed questions compared to a standard application. You will be asked several questions, such as information about your:

  • employment
  • health
  • current and past insurance.

This is how the insurer decides:

  • whether or not to cover you
  • the cost of your cover, and
  • any exclusions that might apply.

The insurer may decline your application based on the answers you provide.

What happens after you apply to update your cover

Once we receive your application, we’ll send it onto our insurer to assess. They may need to ask you more questions about:

  • your circumstances
  • your lifestyle
  • your health.

They may also require you to undergo additional medicals. We’ll let you know once your application has been approved.

You can cancel your insurance at any time. You will need to go through full underwriting if you want to increase you cover after cancelling or reducing it.
