Deanne Stewart [00:00:00] At Aware Super we're committed to doing well for our members at the same time as having a positive impact on society and doing good for all. The Aware Super Scholarship For Emerging Leaders reflects our commitment by supporting a member each year to reach their leadership potential through professional education, vocational training or personal development. Let's hear from some of our recent recipients of the scholarship.
Clare Johnson [00:00:27] So as a teacher, I believe in lifelong learning. You can always develop and better yourself. The scholarship grant will help me to reach back and help other women in education. I've recently done a dissertation on Indigenous students in high performing boarding schools, so that's something that I'm really, really wanting to take forward and ensure that any school that I'm working at is one that is culturally safe for Indigenous students.
Heather Sutton [00:00:58] As a firefighter, initial trainer, I'm part of the team that takes people who have applied to be permanent firefighters all across the state of New South Wales, and we put them through 14 weeks of training to give them the core skills required to respond to any emergency in any situation, whether it's fire, flood, hazardous materials, motor vehicle accidents. Whatever we're called for, firefighters are there to solve the problem. I'm quite confident in my incident management skills, my hard skills, but wanted to bolster my toolkit in that soft skill space at leadership space so I'm just so glad that I've now got this opportunity because it's that next step in my leadership journey and that I'm really comfortable in my role as a recruit instructor, but I want to reach that next level of having those extra skills in leadership and management to be able to draw on not just for myself, but for my recruits and my colleagues that I'm helping to mentor.
Deanne Stewart [00:01:51] Education has the power to change lives, and through this scholarship, our aim is not just to change the lives of the recipients, but to support better outcomes for the communities in which all our members live, work and retire.
