Aware Super UK Appoints Seasoned Investment Professional Helen Steers MBE as Non-Executive Director

Aware Super UK Limited (Aware Super UK), the London-based investment office of Australia's third-largest superannuation fund, Aware Super currently managing A$200 billion, today announced the appointment of Helen Steers MBE as Non-Executive Director to its board, effective 4 September 2025.

Ms Steers brings over 35 years of global investment experience to Aware Super UK, with deep expertise across private markets and a focus on private equity..

She is currently a Partner at Pantheon, a leading global private markets firms managing over US$76 billion across private equity, private credit, infrastructure and real estate, where she has spent more than two decades building and leading European investment operations.

In March 2020, Ms Steers became manager of Pantheon International Plc, a FTSE-250 listed private equity investment trust with a portfolio value exceeding £2.5 billion, and has co-managed the trust since June 2023. She previously led Pantheon's European Private Equity team and chaired Pantheon’s European Investment Committee from 2010 to 2020, while serving as a member of Pantheon’s International Investment Committee until 2025.

In April 2024, Ms Steers became the 25th inductee into the Private Equity Hall of Fame, recognising her outstanding contributions to the industry. She is a past Chair of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA), a past Board member of Invest Europe, and a co-founder of Level 20. 

Aware Super Deputy Chief Investment Officer and Head of International Damien Webb said: "Helen's appointment represents a significant milestone for Aware Super as we continue to expand our global investment capabilities.

"Her extensive experience building funds management businesses, combined with her deep understanding of the UK regulatory framework and global investment networks, makes her an ideal addition to Aware Super UK’s board as we scale our UK and European operations."

Ms Steers will join Mr Webb and Aware Super Group Executive Legal and Company Secretary Ian Pendleton on the Board.

Ms Steers' appointment comes as Aware Super’s UK operations continues its rapid growth trajectory. Launched in 2024, the London office currently employs more than 20 investment professionals focused on originating and managing the Fund’s investments across private equity, property, and infrastructure in the UK and Europe.

About Helen Steers MBE

Helen Steers is a Partner at Pantheon and co-manager of Pantheon International Plc. She holds Master's degrees from the University of Cambridge (Engineering) and University of Western Ontario (MBA). Prior to Pantheon, she held senior investment roles at Russell Investment Group and Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec. She was awarded an MBE in January 2025 for services to gender equality in business and voluntary service.
