Aware Super has been named both Super Fund of the Year and Pension Fund of the Year at the prestigious Chant West Awards – the first time one fund has won both the flagship awards in the same year.

Reflecting the extensive benefits for members that have flowed from the fund’s significant growth and a comprehensive digital transformation program, Aware Super won four awards in total at the event. The $175 billion fund was also named Best Fund: Investments and Best Fund: Insurance.

Aware Super CEO Deanne Stewart said: “Our 1.1 million members have been front and centre in what has been a sweeping program of change at Aware Super in recent years. In everything we’ve done, our driving purpose has been achieving the best possible retirement outcomes for members, and these awards are a marvellous reflection of what we’ve been able to accomplish on their behalf.

“To be the first fund to win both the major and most sought-after Chat West awards – Super Fund of the Year and Pension Fund of the Year – in the same year is incredibly humbling because it underscores how all our members are gaining from our relentless drive to serve them as well as we possibly can.

“The past few years have been nothing short of transformational at Aware Super and our members will be the beneficiaries of these changes long into the future.

"As one of Australia’s largest industry funds, we’re capitalising on our scale in our drive to continue delivering strong long-term returns, reduce fees and be the most helpful partner to retiring Australians."

“Our wide-ranging technology upgrade has dramatically improved processing times for an extensive range of the transactions our members carry out. We’ve opened our first overseas investment office – a key plank in our mission to keep building out a portfolio of compelling investments around the globe. Our members are also benefiting from our range of super helpful online tools, along with advice services available at no extra cost. And all the while, we’ve continued to deliver strong long-term returns, consistently ranking among the nation’s best-performing funds.”

“These awards reflect all this and everything else we’re doing on our members’ behalf, and as such, we’re delighted to have received this recognition."

Recognising excellence across a range of award categories, Chant West’s Super Fund Awards shine a spotlight on best practice in the super industry.

The Super Fund of the Year award focuses on the experience of a typical member in the accumulation phase with a default MySuper fund, while the Pension Fund of the Year award relates to a typical retiree member. Both awards recognise excellence across a range of key criteria such as investments, member services, fees, insurance and organisational strengths.

The award for Best Fund: Investments focuses on each fund’s MySuper investments covering age-based lifecycle structure, investment processes and resources, and their capacity to deliver strong returns, while the Best Fund: Insurance award assesses the value provided for premiums paid and how funds make it easy to get the right amount of cover and to make a claim.

“Each of these awards underscores the strides we’re making on behalf of our members as we help them prepare for, enter and enjoy their best possible retirement,” Ms Stewart said. “With that said, we’ll never rest. Everything we do, we do for our members and we’ll be unyielding in our determination to keep on delivering for them."
