Why is the eSuper contributions functionality being deactivated?

The eSuper portal, including the eSuper contribution method, was opened to employers many years before SuperStream legislation was passed. SuperStream legislation requires employers to send contribution data and payments electronically, and in a specific format, to meet the requirements of the ATO’s Superannuation Data and Payment Standards 2012 legislative instrument.

SuperStream requirements have been phased in by the Government over the last five years and all employers, regardless of size, were expected to be fully SuperStream compliant by 30 June 2016.
It is mandatory for employers to comply with the Government’s SuperStream requirements. Therefore, to make sure you are using a compliant contribution method, we can no longer accept contributions through eSuper.

What are the options?

Three options are available for employers to make SuperStream compliant contributions on behalf of employees who are members of First State Super:

  1. Register as an employer

Register as an employer with First State Super and use our free online clearing house – for businesses with over 20 employees.

  2. Use the Government’s free clearing house

Use the Government’s free clearing house - for small businesses with 19 or less employees, or an annual turnover of less than $10 million.

  3. Use a SuperStream compliant option

Use a SuperStream compliant option offered by your default super fund, if only a small proportion of your employees are members of First State Super.
